A muse that only I can hear and interpret.
An inspiration that I know. This section is geared towards listing what Alex has released since We Got Married, so a lot of information about Clazziquai Project and his collaborations prior—such as with Jisun—will be excluded (except for those that have made it on released singles since his appearance on the show), but I strongly advise you to look into their pieces if you haven’t checked them out yet.

My Vintage Romance (Volume 1) — 2008.06.11
Before listening to this album, I had no idea what to expect. Well, I had some expectations that went along the line of Clazziquai Project’s electronica and groove style, but Alex had mentioned in interviews that the style of Clazziquai Project came mostly from DJ Clazzi. With this first album, he wanted to explore his own style. Much of what is found on this album are ballads, soft-sounding music that differ from the jazzy rhythm of Clazziquai Project. The entire album doesn’t entirely consist of ballads. Alex collaborates with other artists who contribute their own musical elements, such as rapping, arrangement, vocal assistance, and the like. The song that most consider absolutely the foremost ultimate representative of this album? None other than the second track “If it were you” which hit the top spot in Korea’s charts. It’s strong enough as a stand-alone piece, but also soft enough to convey his hopes for a single true love. Other songs that are heaven to my ears are “Feel Like Making Sunshine”, “Waltz lesson”, “Lovers”, “Daydreaming”, “Daisy” and, of course… “Flowerpot”. I haven’t posted any lyrics for this album since there are too many songs for me to convert to hangul, but there are plenty of translations found at The Alex Livejournal Community and the Soompi forums. |

화분 (Digital Single) — 2008.05.06
Looking around on the internet, I found that this single is also called the “We Got Married” digital single, but Alex’s home page calls it something different, so I pasted this title instead—”Flowerpot” which accounts for two-thirds of the contents in this single. These songs are the same ones that were used in the eighth episode of the show when Alex and Shin Ae are in the recording studio. Alex’s rendition of “Flowerpot” hits just the right levels of tones and warmth. Having heard him sing it on the show in front of Shin Ae weighs it with a lot of meaning, in my opinion. The first time I heard Clazziquai’s “Romeo N Juliet” was way back when they released their third album LOVE CHILD of the CENTURY. It became an instant favorite of mine, along with “Last Tango.” It fits on this single nicely with its mellow rhythm and perfectly melded voices between that of Alex’s and Horan’s. DJ Clazzi doesn’t disappoint at all with the musical arrangement. It’s a great song to listen to on evenings when you just want to relax. And last but not least, we have Loveholic’s “Flowerpot”. When Loveholic was still together, they had put out great songs that are on the same level as Clazziquai Project’s—soothing, memorable, and meaningful. Jisun’s breathy voice brings out the high pitches in this song with such precision, my emotions stir whenever I hear this song about departure. The original is absolutely a great listen. The lyrics to these songs are posted over here. |
